Welcome!

You have found the organization that makes recreational boating safe, reliable, and enjoyable. If you have been a member of the American Boat & Yacht Council for years, we thank you. If you are a new member or have just come across us, thank you for your interest in the business of keeping boaters safe on the water.  ABYC was founded in 1954. At our core, we create reliable engineering standards for the manufacture and repair of boats. With very limited federal regulations, the ABYC Standards address critical items that must be designed and built properly so boating remains one of the safest possible pastimes. The good news is that upwards of 90% of the US manufacturers adhere to the Standards, resulting in product with very little mechanical and manufacturer-related safety and usability issues.

Taking the mission of safety a step further, ABYC trains and certifies marine technicians. At this writing over 5,000 active certified technicians work in marine businesses, ready to build, repair, and upgrade boats to the latest safety standards. Adding to these professionals already in the workforce, ABYC also trains aspiring technicians at the secondary and post-secondary level. ABYC offers the only complete entry-level marine-service technology curriculum, designed to prepare students for a rewarding career in recreational boating.

There is no way for me to know what piqued your interest or what caused you to take a moment to read this. Chances are, if you have gotten this far, we can help you.

From OEM manufacturers of boats and accessories to marine surveyors, to accident investigators and insurance professionals, ABYC has the resources that span your everyday work. Join us. Take in a free monthly webinar; access the standards to find the appropriate wire size; get involved in a committee to shape not only national but also international Standards. Get certified, and drive boaters to your business with ABYC’s time-trusted name behind your work. Take one of our many online classes in cutting-edge technology such as lithium-ion batteries or digital switching. Whatever it is that has you involved in the business of recreational boating, we want to be your partner.

Still have questions—on membership, education, or ignition protection? Call or email any one of us here at ABYC. Let us help.
