Technician or Advisor?

ABYC uses two designations to reflect how marine professionals apply their technical knowledge.

ABYC Certified Technician

The Technician designation is for professionals who physically perform installations, troubleshooting, service or repairs on boats.
To earn the Technician designation, you must pass the certification exam and document at least two years of relevant work experience.

ABYC Certified Advisor

The Advisor designation is for professionals who rely on technical knowledge but do not regularly perform hands-on service or installation work.
This may include surveyors, managers, customer service professionals, engineers, compliance professionals and technical consultants. To earn the Advisor designation, you must pass the applicable certification exam.

 

*Both Technician and Advisor certifications are valid for five years.

ABYC Master Technician and Master Advisor

Go Beyond Certified. Become a Master!

ABYC Master Technician and Master Advisor

The highest professional designations in the ABYC Certification program. Earning Master status sets you apart as one of the marine industry’s most knowledgeable and committed professionals.
To qualify, you must hold at least three eligible ABYC certifications. Service Management and U.S. Coast Guard Recreational Boat Regulations certifications do not count toward Master Technician or Master Advisor status.
