Aquatic Invasive Species
Share |

Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) have been a growing issue in the natural resources management community and recreational boating industry. Fishing, boating, and tourism are all harmed by AIS, putting water access at risk.

ABYC hosted the AIS Summit to engage major stakeholders in an in-depth dialogue regarding prevention, inspection and decontamination of boats. Attendees focused on identifying and vetting opportunities related to boat design and construction, component/system design and installation, engine and propulsion systems, and trailer design and construction.

T-32, Design and Construction in Consideration of Aquatic Invasive Species

The technical information report is a result of the work originally initiated at ABYC’s AIS Summit. This report provides guidance on the design and construction of boats, trailers, engines, components, and accessories in order to minimize the spread of AIS. Given the growing threat to recreational boating from AIS, the report is critical to helping curb the issue as it provides best practices and recommendations for manufacturers as well as information on how to educate boaters and customers.
