ABYC Certified Component Program

Today’s customer demands products and services that are high quality, reliable, consistent, and safe. Reliance upon standards and component testing/certification helps to demonstrate these important performance characteristics, earning customer loyalty.

The ABYC Component Certification Program confirms that samples of components fully comply with the current applicable ABYC Standards. This preeminent program creates additional value for manufacturers and boat builders by driving product integrity through an accredited 3rd party certification body.

Benefits:

  • Approved usage of the ABYC Certified Component logo. Customers can have confidence in their purchase of products bearing this logo!

  • Increased visibility though online Certified Component listings.

  • Component testing can be conducted and certification issued for compliance to both ISO and ABYC standards.

  • Boat builders and consumers wade through a sea of products that appear to be for marine use, but may actually be designed for automotive or RV use. The ABYC Certified Component logo confirms the product is built and certified for marine applications.
  • For boat builders, knowing that components have already been found to be in compliance reduces costly redesign/recall issues that may be identified during the boat’s development and production processes.

Procedure:

The International Marine Certification Institute (IMCI), the leading Notified Body in Europe, has been contracted to administer the ABYC Component Certification program globally.

Component manufacturers have two options available for component testing:

Option 1: Select an IMCI-approved laboratory for component testing.

Option 2: Have the component manufacturer’s in-house laboratory assessed by IMCI for conformance with the IMCI approved laboratory procedures. Once the in-house laboratory is approved, the component manufacturer can proceed with testing and submit test reports for component certification.

Completed test reports and an application are submitted directly to IMCI and certificates are then issued to the manufacturer.

Certificate Fees:

  • The initial certificate fee for the component (good for the current year and following calendar year) is 230 EUR (approx. 285 USD).
  • A special price of 325 EUR (approx. 400 USD) is available for the manufacturer that applies for certificates of compliance to both ABYC and ISO standards at the same time.
  • The ABYC certificate fee is 150 EUR (approx. 185 USD) for products with an existing ISO certificate issued by IMCI.
  • Annual update fees:

o   Only 50 EUR (approx. 60 USD) for components without re-evaluation.

o   150 EUR (approx. 185 USD) for components needing re-evaluation due to a changed standard or component.
