Sledgehammer is a 1987 Ocean Yacht 48 Super Sport. She suffered water damage to a significant portion of her cored deck and structure. As a result she sat in an Annapolis boatyard for many years. That yard, Port Annapolis, acquired legal title and began restoration in early 2016. ABYC has been looking for a similar project for the last year for use as a “floating classroom” to produce technical videos for the newly released Online Learning platform and we were introduced to the Sledgehammer project through a common acquaintance.
Port Annapolis agreed to permit ABYC to film projects onboard the boat throughout the remainder of the project with a focus on installations of systems and gear that meet ABYC requirements and the design criteria of the project.
ABYC is seeking support of this project in a couple areas: by providing products that fulfill the project needs, and/or providing technical experts for on-camera guidance in standards related installations. Mastervolt, Blue Sea Systems and Lippert are already involved in the project. Follow the link below for a project list which is already underway.
Supporters of this project will receive mentions in the project press release, Reference Point article, e-newsletter as well as affiliation with ABYC educational content and product placement in course material videos.
ABYC anticipates a series of videos to be used in various standards related online courses to be released over the next year. In the first month of platform activity (soft release… no advertising yet) viewership has grown to 180 users. This number is expected to grow quickly as awareness among our 3,100 members spreads and an external advertising campaign in developed. Additionally, we have a significant amount of interest in international markets.
