ABYC is proud to announce the development marine training courses online to supplement ABYC’s already strong on-site and Fast Trac educational offerings. The new E-Learning platform will host multi-module extensive courses with multimedia demonstrations and interactive learning tools as well as on-demand informational webinars. Continuing Education Units are available for some of the courses and more CEU courses are under development now, many of which are free. Utilizing ABYC’s E-Learning platform affords the student the opportunity to learn at their own pace, save potentially thousands in travel expenses to attend on-site courses, and complete courses without ever leaving their living rooms.

We are now in the final stages of development of our E-Learning platform. 3 classes have already been completed with several more in the works. Look for announcements in the near future for the release of ABYC's new direction in learning.

Basic Marine Electrical and Corrosion

This online program is perfect for the person who is new to marine electricity. It will present the fundamentals of electrical theory as well as circuit types and designs. Test equipment including DVOM/Multimeter selection and use will be covered at length as well as interpretations of meter readings and what the implications and service procedures might be to eliminate problems. ABYC electrical standards that cover things like wiring, over-current protection, battery installation and wire termination are discussed in addition to shore power system basics and the standards that apply to them.

The program will also discuss the basics of marine corrosion. The types of corrosion are identified and how to measure for and mitigate corrosion related issues will be covered. Successful completers of this program will receive a certificate of completion.

2015 ABYC Standards and Technical Information Reports Supplement Update

The American Boat and Yacht Council (ABYC) has released its annual update to the Standards and Technical Information Reports for Small Craft, Supplement 55. This update webinar provides meaningful information regarding the revisions that have been made in an educational format which is worth 1 CEU.

Among the many important standard revisions are changes to A-24, Carbon Monoxide Detections Systems on Boats and seat testing found in H-31, Seat Structures. Additionally, E-11, AC and DC Electrical Systems on Boats was improved for better differentiation between AC and DC requirements.

The full list of revised standards include A-14, Gasoline and Propane Gas Detection Systems; A-24, Carbon Monoxide Detection Systems on Boats; A-31, Battery Chargers and Inverters; E-11, AC and DC Electrical Systems on Boats; H-4, Cockpit Drainage Systems; H-31, Seat Structures; H-33, Diesel Fuel Systems; and S-7, Boat Capacity Labels.
