ABYC Fast Trac® Gasoline Engine Certification

Take advantage of this self-study, review and testing for your opportunity to become ABYC Certified and save time and money.

In response to requests from students and employers, ABYC has created a pathway to certification that is quicker and more affordable!  Unlike the customary ABYC education programing which consisted of a 4 day class and a test, the Fast Trac® is an option where most of the study work is done independently. Students come together for just one day for review and testing.  While classroom time is limited to 1 day, February 24, 2016 students will have access to the instructor via email during the study period preceding the review/test day.  There will be two pre-recorded Webinars available for unlimited viewing to the students to use during their self-study.

THE SOONER YOU REGISTER, THE MORE TIME YOU HAVE TO STUDY and prepare for the review and exam. You will receive a study guide and have access to your instructor via email throughout your study period for questions. The study guide and instructor's contact information and Webinar login information will be sent to you upon paid registration.

ABYC Gasoline Engine Certification

Like our diesel engine certification, the gasoline engine certification takes a generic look at gasoline engine theory and troubleshooting and marine specific installation requirements not only as based on ABYC Standards, but in the case of gasoline USCG requirements as dictated by the CFR (Code of Federal Regulations) As with some of our other certifications, candidates can choose from one of three methods to acquire their certification. For those with extensive experience, the self-study method might work best. Simply contact ABYC and order the current study guide version to assist in your self-study. Then, contact the ABYC education department and arrange for a proctored online test in your area when you feel comfortable with the material. FastTrac is available for this certification. With FastTrac, a mix of self-study, two online review webinars and a one-day commitment to review and sit for the proctored exam complete the program. Last but not least is the four-day class with review and exam on the last day. Due to the larger presence of carbon monoxide and fuel volatility with gasoline engines more standards as well Federal laws apply to gasoline engine installations. The ABYC programming will look at generic material already mentioned plus the following ABYC Standards:

·         A-14 Gasoline and propane gas detection systems

·         A- 24 Carbon monoxide detection systems

·         H-2 Ventilation of boats using gasoline

·         H-24 Gasoline fuel systems

·         P-1 Installation of exhaust systems used in propulsion and auxiliary engines

·         P-4 Marine engines and transmissions

·         P-6 Propeller shafting systems

·         P-14 Mechanical propulsion control systems

·         P-24 Electric/electronic propulsion control systems

Onsite reserved classes scheduled by association, corporate or government entities will incur a 10% of contracted rate cancellation fee for any classes cancelled after initial scheduling is established. Please take this into consideration when making any travel or accommodation arrangements. ABYC will not provide any reimbursements for travel expenses.
