ABYC Marine Electrical Certification Fast Trac
December 9, 2015
At the RBEC Conference
In response to requests from students and employers, ABYC has created a pathway to certification that is quicker and more affordable! Unlike the customary ABYC education programing which consisted of a 4 day class and a test, the Fast Trac is a option where most of the study work is done independently. Students come together for just one day for review and testing. While classroom time is limited to one day December 9th, students will have access to the instructor via email during the study period preceding the review/test day. There will also be two Webinars presented to the students by Ed Sherman.
Course Review and testing will be held on December 9, 2015, starting at 9:00am, at the following location:
Radisson Hotel at the Capitol, 111 N. Grand Avenue, Lansing MI 48933
Course Description: This electrical certification course is designed and intended for those with a minimum of 3-5 years practical experience in the field of marine electrical design, service or installation. Students new to the marine electrical field should consider our basic electrical programming options.
The successful certification candidate should be familiar with all of the ABYC electrical standards, although the applicable standards should be reviewed as a part of the course.
The 14 topic areas that the candidates should have some pre-requisite background in include:
Electrical fundamentals • AC Shore Power Systems • Cable Installation and Termination • AC Generators • Maintaining and Installing Battery Systems • AC Panel boards • Battery Charging Systems • DC Panel boards • Inverters • AC Components • DC Components • Safety Equipment • Troubleshooting with Tips and Hints
Candidates may reference all study materials including the supplied study guide (which contains all pertinent ABYC standards integrated into the text), class notes and additional ABYC standards in either printed or computer-based form during the certification exam. The exam is timed at 3 hours and is comprised of approximately 200 multiple-choice questions.
Attendees with special needs must inform ABYC in writing of said needs at the time of class registration to ensure that any special accommodations can be made for exam taking.
THE SOONER YOU REGISTER, THE MORE TIME YOU HAVE TO STUDY and prepare for the review and exam. You will receive a study guide and have access to your instructor via email throughout your study period for questions. The study guide and instructor's contact information and Webinar login information will be sent to you upon paid registration.
